Alyson Michalka has revealed that she is planning to stay busy during Hellcats’s upcoming hiatus.
Speaking to USA Weekend, the star suggested that her primary goal is to regroup with her sister and 78violet bandmate Amanda.
“I’m going to be doing the new 78violet record with my sister, so I’m really looking forward to that,” she said. “That’s basically what my main focus is going to be on.”
The Roommate actress continued: “And then maybe if I can do a film that doesn’t shoot super long, because I don’t have a ton of time, but is something I’m passionate about, I’d love to do that as well.
“It’s important to just continue to have good intentions when it comes to booking your next film, and not doing it for any other reason but ‘I want to do this and I’m passionate about it’. And it’s important to keep variety in your work, so most likely my next movie would be completely different from The Roommate or Easy A.”

Screen Gems is back in good form with thriller The Roommate, which easily beat Universal/Relativity’s 3D Sanctum at the Friday box office in grossing an estimated $6.4 million from 2,534 screens.
Sanctum, executive produced by James Cameron, grossed an estimated $3.6 million from 2,787 runs, including more than 2,000 3D runs. The Australian adventure-thriller also is playing in 178 Imax theaters.Roommate is looking at a weekend gross of $15 million or more, a strong start for the female-driven pic, which stars Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester. The movie, which cost a modest $16 million to produce, is the first film in weeks to draw a younger crowd. Of the audience, 73% were under the age of 25, helping to explain the film’s strength.
Otherwise, the box office remained sluggish. Bad weather in the South didn’t help, while Chicago is still digging out from the Groundhog blizzard.
Universal and Relativity Media, which partnered in paying $12 million for distribution rights to Sanctum, knew going into the weekend that the film would have a soft debut, despite Cameron’s involvement and higher-priced 3D tickets. Roughly 80% of the audience was over the age of 25.
Sanctum received a C+ CinemaScore; Roommate, a B-.

You get a pass if you weren’t up on Alyson Michalka last year. We get it. Maybe Hellcats isn’t your top priority on Wednesday nights (maybe it should be). But now you’ve got no more excuses. The 21-year-old California girl stars in this month’s go-to horror flick, The Roommate, and it’s time to pay attention. We recently went behind the pom-poms with Aly on the set of Hellcats to talk guns, guy friends, guns, and guns again (naturally).
Complex: You look like such a sweet girl on Hellcats. Tell me something surprising.
Alyson Michalka: I’m a huge book fanatic, and I shoot. I’m very comfortable around guns. I’ve been shooting since I was 9. I usually shoot a .22 Magnum, but I prefer a shotgun because the feeling is incredible.
Complex: Books, shmooks—but a cheerleader who prefers a shotgun? Guys must love that.
Alyson Michalka: [Laughs.] Yeah. It’s fun to work with so many girls on a movie like The Roommate, because I actually have more guy friends.
